MBAs may be the best known business masters degrees, but there are a many more options. Business masters other options include specialisms in Marketing, HR, General Management and Change Management.

The purpose of business masters degrees varies a lot between courses. In some cases they are introductory courses to general business or a business specialism. These are probably most useful for recent graduates. This applies both to graduates of a business oriented first degree who want to add a masters level qualification and go into some issues in more depth, and also for graduates of non-business degrees who want a good grounding in business issues. Many of the unis offering these degrees also accept candidates who have fairly high-level professional qualifications as entry criteria, so a degree is not always necessary to get in. Examples include the DMS (Diploma in Management Studies) which gives access to many courses, the Institute of Personnel Management whose diploma gives entry to most masters in HR, and the CIM (Chartered Institute of Marketing) Diploma which gives access to most marketing masters degrees. The DMS and CIM diploma can also be used as alternative entry criteria to a number of MBAs.

The second type of business masters is targeted at people with several years experience who want to deepen their knowledge of a particular specialism or get a broader management education in the case of more general degrees.
